Fire service sees slight increase in Halloween callouts

The number of calls to firefighters across Northern Ireland on Halloween rose slightly compared with last year.

As households across the region celebrated with traditional festivities, the Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) received 70 emergency calls.

In the course of the night, from 6pm on Tuesday through to 1am on Wednesday, fire crews responded to 44 incidents, including one bonfire.

An NIFRS spokesman said this represented a 2% increase on the same period last year,

In a overnight update, they said: “Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service has been responding to calls during the night of Halloween celebrations with the situation remaining relatively steady.

“From 6pm on 31 October 2023 to 1am on 1 November 2023 NIFRS Regional Control Centre received 70 emergency calls and fire crews have responded to 44 operational incidents.

“This equates to a 2% increase for the same period 2022. One of these incidents was a bonfire.”
