GEMX, a leading advocate for fostering talent in the manufacturing and engineering sectors, was delighted to host an interactive roadshow, aimed at inspiring and informing Year 10 students.

The roadshow was hosted by NWRC at their Limavady Campus where staff went out of their way to ensure that the event was enjoyable for all concerned. Despite the bad weather, over 350 pupils attended from eight schools across Limavady, Dungiven, Claudy and Ballymoney.

Sponsorship of the event was provided by Causeway Coast & Glens Council who will also provide funding towards the follow-up competition which will be an Experience Day at Terex, Campsie.

The Interactive Roadshow is a unique platform, bringing together fourteen manufacturing and engineering companies, while showcasing innovative teaching areas within NWRC. This combination created an immersive experience, enabling students to engage with industry professionals and learn about potential career paths.

The event was designed to provide valuable insights, practical knowledge, and hands-on activities to spark curiosity and interest among the next generation.

GEMX Project Director Joanne Sweeney said: “Our companies have developed a range of hands-on activities designed to showcase the real-world applications of manufacturing and engineering concepts. Students were given the chance to meet “real people” and hear about their jobs within a range of local companies.

"Teachers also had the chance to interact with representatives from leading companies, fostering connections that can lead to a range of opportunities for schools”.

GEMX is committed to bridging the gap between education and industry, and this interactive roadshow exemplified our dedication to nurturing the next generation of talent in manufacturing and engineering.

A group of employees from GES provided lots of entertainment and challenged those interested to “weld with chocolate!”

James Thompson, from Seagate, transported many visitors to the Seagate factory floor, using VR and NeliPak challenged the crowd to “Find the Bug” with the enticement of regular spot prizes.

Niall McCready from DuPont said: “Events like this help young people to make informed decisions about their  future and we would be keen to support similar events in the future”.

GEMX is supported under Invest NI’s Collaborative Growth Programme.
