Fibrus, the Full Fibre broadband provider, has announced 3,500 premises are now connectable to its high-speed network.
Over the past few weeks, over 1,100 premises in the Claudy area and an additional 1,100 in Dungiven have been activated, with the latter experiencing an initial connectivity boost of 1,200 locations last autumn.
Highlighting the latest developments, Shane Haslem, Chief Operating Officer at Fibrus, said:
“Fibrus is committed to improving connectivity in rural and regional communities, having already extended our network to over 300,000 premises in Northern Ireland and Cumbria.
“We aim to enhance the lives of residents in underserved areas, addressing longstanding connectivity challenges. The introduction of full fibre broadband services in townlands such as Claudy and Dungiven will have a positive impact on the daily experiences of locals, redefining the way families and businesses go about their lives.”
He added:
“We are thrilled that even more communities are benefiting from our revolutionary network. Fibrus is committed to reshaping the broadband landscape, bridging the digital divide and empowering communities with enhanced connectivity, fostering growth, prosperity and digital inclusion.”
Welcoming the development and expressing support for the expanded broadband coverage, Caoimhe Archibald, MLA for East Derry, said:
"Access to affordable, high-quality broadband is crucial for families and businesses in rural areas. The Fibrus Full Fibre rollout has already made a difference in East Derry, and I'm pleased to see it reaching even more rural communities, including towns such as Claudy and Dungiven.
“It is encouraging to see how crucial technology is already enhancing the lives of local residents, farmers and businesses in the area and I look forward to its continued success in levelling up the north.”
Over the course of the past year, Fibrus has demonstrated its support for communities this year by investing £60,000 in Northern Ireland in 2023 through the Fibrus Community Fund, which aims to tackle digital poverty across the region. This sits alongside a new grassroots sports club fund, Play it Forward, which invested £50,000 and supported almost 50 sports clubs, including Draperstown Scout Group and Strabane Athletic Football Club.
