Stephen and Andy Brett, brothers and head coaches at Elite Martial Arts Derry, have both clinched gold at the World Karate and Kickboxing Championships held in Portugal from October 27th to November 1st.

Competing within one of the world’s largest and most competitive martial arts bodies (WKKC) the Brett brothers faced athletes from multiple countries.

From the outset, they demonstrated unmatched skill and determination, powering their way to the finals and claiming world titles for Team Northern Ireland.

Representing Team N. Ireland, Stephen (men's vet -75kg) and Andy (men's 18+ -90kg) travelled to Portugal alongside team president Michael Bradley and vice president Finneen Bradley.

Their triumphs not only mark a personal victory but also highlight the exceptional calibre of martial arts talent emerging from Derry.

Reflecting on their journey, Michael Bradley shared: “Watching the Brett brothers in action was a true pleasure. They are incredibly skilled martial artists, and I’ve had the privilege of previously training with them since they were young, before they opened up Elite Martial Arts.”

Adding to the excitement, Jake Brett, son of Stephen Brett, also competed on the world stage, narrowly missing out on victory in a thrilling and hard-fought battle.

Finneen Bradley said: “Congratulations to Stephen and Andy Brett on their outstanding achievements in one of the most demanding global arenas. Their dedication and expertise continue to inspire the martial arts community both in Derry and beyond.”
