County Derry teenager ranked top rookie in Formula Winter Series

County Derry’s Fionn McLaughlin brought to a close his Formula Winter Series last weekend.

The Magherafelt teenager entered the weekend in Barcelona placed second in the overall championship with a chance of claiming the series.

However, the Red Bull junior driver was unable to claim the title in his first series as a driver for the team.

McLaughlin finished third overall in the championship, but he will have turned heads as he finished top amongst all the rookies that had taken part in the series, with motorsport fans likely to keep an eye on his progress as he starts to climb the ladder towards Formula One.

Across the weekend he once again impressed across the three races with a second place finish in two of his races.

The County Derry teenager will now turn his attention to the British Championship.

He said: “That’s a wrap for the Formula Winter Series!

“It’s been an amazing start to the year! I became Rookie Champion and finished P3 in the official championship, securing multiple wins along the way. Huge thanks to the team for everything. I’m incredibly proud of how far I’ve come, especially since this is only my fourth weekend in single-seaters!”
