The whole school family turned out on a sunny but cold Friday morning to take part in the Annual Christmas Elf Run at Holy Child Primary School and they were joined by Santa Claus and the Mayor, Ruairi McHugh as they sang and danced their way around the Creggan estate.

Colourful festive costumes adorned the pupils and staff as they made their way around Creggan and back to the school. The procession was led by two large horses pulling Santa’s sleigh and he was kept company by the city and district’s Mayor, Ruairi McHugh.

Local businesses, community groups, parents, grandparents and even motorists stopped to acknowledge the colourful display and enjoy the amazing carol singing of the school choir.

Speaking after the event, Principal Mrs. Pat Concannon said once again the children of the Holy Child did the school and the local community proud.

‘It was a pleasure to see so many happy faces join hands and take part in the festive procession around the estate. We must acknowledge the number of people who also turned out in support and I extend thanks to Mayor McHugh who took time out of his busy schedule to join us. I mustn’t forget Santa Claus and his troupe who led the ‘Elf Run’ and added to the joyous occasion.

‘And it was our P7 pupils in their last Christmas in Holy Child who got to share the colourful occasion with our P1 pupils by taking them around the Elf Walk singing all over Creggan, bringing joy and cheer to the whole area with their singing and laughter. I’m very proud of them all!’
