Police in Derry have made an arrest following a report of criminal damage being caused to property in the city centre area last night, Thursday, January 15.
A report was made shortly before midnight that at 11.40pm, criminal damage was caused to two doors of two properties that were kicked. It was also reported a bin was thrown at a vehicle.
Police conducted patrols of the area and subsequently arrested a male matching the description of the suspect. The man, aged in his 20s, was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage. When he was being detained in police custody, he kicked two police officers and punched a custody detention officer and was further arrested on suspicion of assaulting two police officers and a police designated person. The man remains in custody at this time.
Both officers were able to remain on duty, however the custody detention officer was not able to finish their shift.
Inspector Gahan said: "I want to reiterate that assaults on emergency services workers, such as our officers and staff will not be tolerated, and those who do assault our officers and staff, can expect to face the judicial process."
