18-year-old man fined and disqualified at Derry Court on series of driving offences

Man returned for trial to Derry Crown Court on 28 charges

An 18-year-old man who admitted a series of driving offences has been fined and disqualified at Derry Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.

Jordan McGonigle of Galliagh Park in Derry admitted driving with excess alcohol, dangerous driving, no insurance, driving while unaccompanied and aggravated vehicle taking on October 9.

The court heard that police were called to a report of a drunk man pushing a vehicle in the Bradley's Pass area of the city.

They found McGonigle sitting in the driver's seat of a car and an evidential breath test revealed a reading of 90mgs.

Tbe defendant's mother also reported that he did not have permission to drive the vehicle.

The police were also told that the vehicle had hit a pad while he was driving. 

Defence solicitor Paddy MacDermott said his client was 'very keen on cars'.

He said he had never been in trouble before and had admitted everything at the first opportunity.

McGonigle was fined a total of £725 and disqualified for 12 months.
