The old fire station at Rock Road, Glenties
A social housing development will replace the old fire station building at Rock Road in Glenties.
Donegal County Council has agreed to the proposal to approve the carrying out of works with regard to the demolition of the existing single storey building and the construction of three two-storey two-bedroom dwellings on the 0.05 hectares site with new public footpath, off-street parking and all associated site works.
Monday’s meeting of the council was told via a report that the scheme will provide high-quality and sustainable homes under the Government’s Housing for All Plan and that all service infrastructure such as surface and foul drainage, mains water supply, EIR and ESB are available to the site.
The report added this site provided an excellent opportunity for a small residential development and offered an appropriate location for social housing and the creation of a sustainable community given its proximity to the town centre (200m) and the numerous retail, educational and recreational facilities located close by.
The decision was proposed by Cllr Noreen McGarvey and seconded by Cllr Marie Therese Gallagher.
