Paul McGinley with his parents, Julia and Mick.
Former Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley has paid an emotional tribute to his mother, Julia, who has died.
Julia McGinley, née Sheridan, was a native of Rathmullan, whose ties and connections to Donegal never waned despite the family being based in Dublin.
Julia is a former Lady President and Captain at Dunfanaghy Golf Club and the family were regular visitors to the county.
Julia wed Mick McGinley, a native of Dunfanaghy, and Donegal blood coursed through the veins of their children: Paul, Michael Jnr, Suzanne, Mary and Karen. Mick McGinley is a former Gaelic footballer with Donegal and their support of the county teams remained as passionate as ever.
Paul McGinley was the 2014 Ryder Cup winning captain, who was accorded with the Freedom of Donegal in August, 2022, in recognition of his promotion of the Irish Open, which was held in Ballyliffin, and the Legends Tour in Rosapenna.
Paul McGinley announced the death of his beloved mother on Twitter.
"Mom gave our family routine - whether it was always being there when you opened the door or called on the phone,” he said.
"Whether it was her daily mass at 10 or pride of family occasions - she was always so stable & predictable - rest in peace mom - you leave us all so heartbroken."
