The fantastic proceeds of a recent fundraiser in Bundoran in memory of the late Tanya Dunne (née o’Shea) has been presented to the Oncology team at Sligo University Hospital and S.H.O.U.T, the Sligo University Hospital Oncology Trust.

The late Tanya, a pre school manager with the Saimer Community Childcare Group in Ballyshannon and with prominent links to LGFA clubs in Belleek, Ballyshannon and Bundoran had chronicled her journey with amazing bravery, fortitude and courage through her cervival cancer diagnosis and treatment that later included going to Mexico, and her positivity was always matched by her determination to battle it to the very end. Sligo University Hospital and before that Altnagelvin Hospital in Derry also played an important role on that journey

Tanya had also encouraged women to seek immediate professional medical advise, if they even had the very slightest of suspicion regarding how they were feeling, or potential symptoms.

Last December the 42-year-old’s funeral was one of largest witnessed in south Donegal in recent memory on what would have been her fifth wedding anniversary.

Reflecting on the recent cheque presentation, from the proceeds of a 'A Night in Memory of Tanya', held at the end of October in Bundoran's Great Northern Hotel, her late husband Rory Dunne said:

“It was with great emotion that myself and Bernie O'Shea, Tanya’s Mum returned to the Oncology unit in Sligo university hospital for the first time since our beloved Tanya left this world just under a year ago

“ But it was also a day filled with immense pride that we were able to present this cheque for €6,780 to SHOUT, Sligo Hospital Oncology Unit Trust and knowing it will be going towards people and families who are going through their own cancer journey like we and so many families have before us

“We would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone who donated towards the night in memory of Tanya and to all the businesses and private donations of what were some fantastic prizes on the night.

He issued a special word of thanks to Sinead Cummins who donated the seven day holiday to Gran Canaria and hoped that winners Alicia Corr and Nicky Corr enjoy their holiday.

“ I just to also say a massive thank you to everyone who attended the night and helped in any way in organising the event with me and to The Great Northern Hotel Bundoran for hosting what was a brilliant night.”
