Sinn Féin have selected Kellie Rodgers as their third candidate to contest the local elections for the party in the Glenties Local Electoral Area.

Hailing from Mullaghduff, Kellie is a proud West Donegal woman and a native Irish speaker. She currently serves in the role of customer service, operations and aviation firefighter at Aerfort Dhún na nGall. She will run alongside Cllr Brian Carr and Cllr John Sheamais Ó Fearraigh.

“I am honoured to be selected by my party to stand for election in the Glenties Local Electoral Area,” she said.

“Having been very conscious that the community I have grown up in has been left behind, I am putting my name forward to help bring about change. Communities and neighbours are left lacking with a health service that has normalised long waiting times and overcrowding.

“I’ve heard the stories of children desperately needing support and the state’s helping hand is not there in their time of need. CAMHS is also in crisis in Donegal.

“I’ve seen how rural communities such as mine have been left decimated as a generation of young people feel that the Ireland of today doesn’t offer them any hope. I passionately believe this election can be where we start to turn the tide and that the change can start here.

“I’m honoured to be selected and if elected I will be a strong voice as part of a bigger team to address the neglect of Donegal. To give our island, coastal and fishing communities the support it needs to thrive and that our roads and infrastructure are made safe and have the proper investment.”

Deputy Pearse Doherty added: “I am delighted that Kellie has decided to stand for election. She is a candidate who cares deeply about her local community. She is a terrific candidate who has really hit the ground running.

“Kellie has been involved with the party for a very long time and ever since I have known her, she has been a straight-talking person who doesn’t suffer fools gladly and gets things done. I am delighted that she plans to bring her energy and skills to the council.

“Together with the other Sinn Féin candidates in this area, Cllr Brian Carr and Cllr John Sheamais Ó Fearraigh, I believe this represents a very strong team to contest the election on June 7.”
