Watch: Save the date - the Ballintra Races are back this August Bank Holiday

Covid and difficulty obtaining insurance means that is it five years since the race meeting took place

Watch: Save the date - the Ballintra Races are back this August Bank Holiday

Ballintra Races

Hailed as the second largest flapper meeting in Ireland (after Dingle), the Ballintra Races is all set to make a welcome return.

The hugely popular event is scheduled for the bank holiday Monday, August 5 at 2pm. This video gives a flavour of what racegoers can expect:

Racegoers can look forward not only to exciting horse racing at the Murvagh venue but to a fantastic festival atmosphere suitable for all the family.

And there is plenty of time to perfect those looks for the coveted ‘Best Dressed’ prizes.

This longstanding race meeting has been running since 1943 but like so much else, it lost out on two years due to Covid-19.

Unfortunately, there were further woes to come. In 2022, with all plans in place, organisers had to take the difficult decision to cancel the event just six weeks before it was due to take place. The reason was difficulty in obtaining insurance, a challenge faced by many organisations and sporting events post Brexit.

Its return after a five-year absence will no doubt add to the celebrations on the day.

Further details and updates can be found on the Ballintra Races Facebook page.
