Fun for All Buncrana coordinated a new redesign of the public toilets beside the local park. The organisation was originally set up to fundraise to make the park swing and picnic tables more wheelchair accessible.
To do this they needed to raise €20,000 but ended up raising €38,000. With the surplus money they ended up putting in 16 pieces of inclusive playground equipment.
After completion they realised the bathrooms needed a complete upgrade to make them more accessible as well as no work had been done on them for a while.
The work was funded by Donegal County Council who paid for all the industrial work as well as supplying the paint.
The work started on June 7 when HML powerhosed the roof and outside of the building as well as steam cleaning the inside.
Fun for All is a family organisation so most of the work was carried out by family members of Coreen Robinson. However, the Buncrana Tidy Towns committee asked to get involved and they painted the exterior of the building.
Cassie Lyons was in charge of designing the new mural on the building, however she had some help from her younger cousins Eve Robinson and Aoife Friel.
The County Council have also paid for new hand dryers, taps and other equipment inside the bathrooms.
Now that the bathrooms are complete, Fun for All is in the process of opening a fully accessible park for everyone which is due to open in the next few weeks.
