The cast of Greasepaint Productions’s A Christmas Carol – The Musical
Following the highly acclaimed production of Brian Friel’s play Dancing at Lughnasa earlier this year, local community theatre company Greasepaint Productions returns to St Mary’s Hall, Buncrana next month with a very special treat just in time for the holiday season.
The cast and crew have been working exceptionally hard over the last three months and are now putting the finishing touches to the festive classic A Christmas Carol – The Musical.
Based on the well-loved Charles Dickens story, this musical interpretation celebrates its thirtieth anniversary, having first been performed at Madison Square Garden in December 1994. It features uplifting music from Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin and The Little Mermaid), as well as a stellar home-grown cast of talented adults and children. The story is set in Victorian London and begins on a cold Christmas Eve at the London Exchange.
Upon his arrival at home, the mean-spirited miser Ebeneezer Scrooge has an unexpected visit from the ghost of his lifetime business partner Jacob Marley. Bound in chains by way of punishment for his earthly greed, Marley tries to warn his friend so as to escape the same fate.

With the creative insight led by Caitriona Bradley, costumes sourced by Sheila Brown and Caroline Doherty and choreography input from Diarmaid O’Meara, the transition through past, present and future is seamless in delivering this tale of discovering that it is never too late to change and find the true meaning of family, especially in the joy and excitement of Christmastime.
A spokesperson for the company said: “We are so delighted to once again present our production of A Christmas Carol – The Musical. We hope that it will lift everyone’s spirits and ignite the magic of Christmas for young and old alike.
“This will be the first live performance in St Mary’s Hall Buncrana following the recent installation of the accessibility lift. So, we are extremely excited to have the opportunity to share these performances with audience members who have perhaps not been able to attend an event in the theatre for a very long time. We want to sincerely thank all those individuals and groups across the community who have been working tirelessly to ensure that this installation has come to fruition.”
Greasepaint Productions and alumni have won numerous community awards and were nominated for The Spirit of AIMS award for The Wizard of Oz in 2010. Many past members have progressed to carve out careers both on and off stage in theatre and performing arts in London’s Westend, New York and Dubai.
A Christmas Carol – The Musical will be performed in St Mary’s Hall, Buncrana from Saturday, December 7 until Saturday, December 14 with Matinees at 3pm on December 7, 8 and 14 with tickets priced €12. Evening performances will commence at 8pm with tickets €15. There will be no performances on Friday evenings.
