Dr Nuala Carr, an environmental scientist, has been selected as The Green Party's general election candidate.
The Letterkenny woman unsuccessfully contested in the June local election.
The climate activist works at the Atlantic Technological University on an EU-funded research project to harmonise the skills and training needs of the offshore wind energy industry.
With a background in ecology and her current studies in the social sciences, she is very aware of the urgent need to address the social and environmental issues that are required to promote sustainable practices in local communities, believing that “our futures will depend on climate action”.
Taking to the Green Party's website, she says of her main priorities, if elected: “We need to help local businesses to compete and grow, promote greater access to enterprise supports through new powers the county council will have, ensure everyone has access to the best possible education and keep the elderly safe through better policing and crime prevention.”
Other major priorities include, dealing with the defective blocks crisis, and the need for more affordable homes in Donegal, upgrading and expanding public transport with a reconnection to the national rail network.
She also promises the protection and promotion of Donegal's historical heritage.
The Green Party is running a poster-free general election campaign throughout the country.
