Lettermacaward Health Centre Action Group have expressed their delight at the reopening
The Lettermacaward Health Centre has been reopened.
The facility was closed two years ago over concerns that the building was not fit for purpose. Patients who attended the centre were asked to attend the primary care centre in Glenties following the closure “until a decision is taken regarding the future availability of the Lettermacaward.”
“We are delighted to see that Lettermacaward Health Centre is open today,” Lettermacaward Health Centre Action Group, who have campaigned for the reopening, posted. “It is fantastic that this vital service has been restored. Thanks so much to everyone who has worked so tirelessly to have the centre re-opened. A fantastic community effort.”

Donegal TD and Sinn Féin Spokesperson for Finance Pearse Doherty and Councillor Brian Carr have both welcomed the reopening.
Teachta Doherty said: “I am delighted to hear the news that Lettermacaward GP Surgery has been opened and is taking appointments. It has been a long road for the local community, who had their health centre taken away from them over two years ago.
Patients who attended the Lettermacaward Health Centre were asked to attend the primary care centre in Glenties following the closure and the Lettermacaward Health Centre Action Group pushed for the reopening.
“Over one year ago, it also had major works completed to it which made the failure to have it open and serving the community even more frustrating. The local community and campaigners have done trojan work to keep the issue to the fore over that time. Both myself and Cllr Brian Carr have raised the issue of the reopening of the Health Centre repeatedly with the HSE over that time.
“It is not clear how many days the surgery will be open yet and this is something I will follow up on to get clarity. As for now, this is a great day for the community in Lettermacaward and the surrounding area.”
Cllr Carr added: “Fantastic news! Huge congratulations to the Lettermacaward Health Centre Action Group and the local community for all their dedication and tireless lobbying efforts. Thank you for the mention and a special thanks to Pearse for taking this fight to the HSE and the relevant ministers. Great to see the doors open and I wish everyone all the best.”
