Cllr Michael McClafferty posted this example of the state of water in his local area earlier in the week
Uisce Éireann has confirmed the public water supply in Falcarragh and Gortahork is safe for consumption.
This follows the discolouration visible in the water supply and the public raising concerns to Falcarragh-based Councillor Michael McClafferty, who reached out to the water supplier. Uisce Éireann confirmed that repair works to a burst network disturbed sediment in the pipework, resulting in discoloured water.
“We apologise for any inconvenience caused to customers as a result of the discolouration in the water supply, but they can be assured that the water from Gortahork/Falcarragh Water Treatment Plant is safe to drink,” Uisce Éireann’s Damien O’Sullivan said.
“If tap water appears white or cloudy, it may be due to the presence of air bubbles. Air bubbles do not affect the quality of drinking water. If the colour of the water clears after a few minutes, the water is safe to drink. If the white or cloudy appearance does not clear, we would encourage customers to contact us directly on 1800 278 278 and we will investigate it.”
