Condon House, Ballyshannon
A historic Ballyshannon building that was once home to a Westminster MP, and has been part of a recent conservation project has been made available for sale.
Condon House, located on The Mall in Ballyshannon, has been advertised for sale on daft.ie for €150,000, and the sale is being facilitated by Sean O’Boyle Auctioneers & Valuers Ltd via the iamsold bidding platform.
The early 19th-century property was once the home of Edward Joseph Kelly, who was elected to the British Parliament as the elected MP for East Donegal in 1910. The house later became the home of Dr Frederick William Condon, of whom the building takes its name.
As part of the Historic Towns Initiative, as reported in November 2021, a new roof was to be put on the property, and the windows were to be repaired, as most of the frames had gone. Traditional old sash windows were to be reinstated, and the rainwater goods were to be repaired to make the building weatherproof and save it from dereliction. It was hoped that the cast and wrought iron railing at the front would be repaired.

Condon House was also awarded funding to conserve notable historic structures under the Historic Structures Fund 2022.
Funding had been awarded for work on internal structural repair, the renewal of internal timber floor structures to the main house, vegetation management, and the renewal of roof coverings to an outbuilding.
The Historic Structures Fund provided assistance to a wide range of heritage structures, including awards to historic bridges, castles, churches, mills, libraries, shopfronts, and private houses.
Sean O’Boyle Auctioneers said the property is a “most impressive and well-proportioned late Georgian townhouse,” and boasts an “array of wonderful original architectural features throughout.”
The “characterful” four-bedroom property also includes the ruins of an old coach house on the grounds.
Sean O’Boyle Auctioneers concluded: “Restoring the abundance of architectural features would prove a most worthwhile venture, ultimately ensuring a superb appreciation for its original character.”
