Donegal wedding venue granted permission to remove limited season for business

Donegal County Council removes March-October restriction on Drumhalla House

Donegal wedding venue granted permission to remove limited season for business

Wedding venue, Drumhalla House, sees opening times extended to full year

A popular Donegal wedding venue has been granted permission by Donegal County Council to be open for business for 12 months of the year, removing a previous condition against it.

Drumhalla House, near Rathmullan, applied to Donegal County Council to remove a condition set in 2017, that the business can be run from March 1 until October 31 of each year.

That development permitted the erection of a marquee, along with an ancillary toilet block, kitchen and store.

Donegal County Council granted that application, under certain provisos, including the levels of noise after 10pm not to go above 45 decibels, that all music cease playing after 1am, and that the business be closed to patrons after 2am.

Drumhalla House is a period property close to Lough Swilly and can accommodate up to 290 guests at a wedding reception.

The rationale for extending Drumhalla House’s opening times was explained in the submitted cover letter. The letter read: Drumhalla House contributes significantly to the local hospitality and tourism offering and is recognised as a venue that attracts both local and international clientele to Rathmullan and the wider Donegal area.

“The extension of the season is required to respond to the strong demand for high-quality wedding and hospitality venues outside the current permitted season.

The ability to host events year-round is essential to the sustainable operation of Drumhalla House, ensuring continuity of employment, viability of the business, and ongoing contribution to the rural economy of north Donegal.”
