Donegal schools have been allocated €1.4 million in Minor Works and Information Communications Technology (ICT) Grant funding.

Welcoming the announcement made by the Minister for Education and Youth, Hildegarde Naughton, Donegal Minister of State, Charlie McConalogue, said: “This grant funding for our local schools will provide certainty for essential planning and upgrades. It also allows principals and boards of management to make smart, flexible, and timely improvements that directly address their unique needs, whether that’s enhancing facilities or upgrading technology."

The Minor Works grant gives schools the autonomy to tackle immediate maintenance and small-scale improvements, from ventilation upgrades and new furniture to enhancing outdoor learning spaces. This ensures a healthy and safe environment where students can thrive, protecting significant public investment in school infrastructure.

The ICT funding empowers educators to integrate technology seamlessly into the classroom, Minister McConalogue added: "It is vital that our schools can instil students with the skills they need to reach their full potential. This funding helps close the digital divide and supports children and young people to become competent, critically engaged learners in a rapidly changing world.

“Both grants are vital for schools in Donegal to provide high-quality education and facilities for pupils which will enhance the learning experience,” the Donegal Minister of State for Sport and Postal Policy added.
