Micheál Brennan, aka Donegal Daddy

Life is busy for Glenties man Michael Brennan, aka Donegal Daddy. Father to Gracie, Kate and Mollie, he has gained a social media following by sharing his parenting experience. His Instagram profile @donegaldaddy boasts over 45,000 followers, where his relatable and often hilarious videos depict the daily situations of a stay-at-home dad.

Michael’s profile is on the rise. He took part in the Donegal International Car Push for Relay For Life as a special guest driver with Highland Motors and Ferry Fit. Beyond social media, he’s had success with his band Red Alert, who celebrate 25 years together this year. They perform at weddings and will mark the anniversary with a special gig in Glenties in July.

LUST: Who or what are you lusting after and why? Probably a full night’s sleep! More hours of sleep would be great. I think a lot of parents would relate to that. Other than that I’m pretty happy with what I have.

GREED: What are your favourite indulgences? Probably Coke Zero, that’s another thing I’d always have close at hand is a cup of tea and a Coke Zero. Or else a nice flat white. It’s hard to beat a nice flat white from some of the nice coffee wagons around Donegal. The People’s Coffee over outside Letterkenny, it’s nice to stop at, or Yer Man’s Coffee in Fintown. We’re blessed with the coffee vans up here, it’s great.

GLUTTONY: What could you happily eat or drink until you burst? I would drink tea all day long. I would drink any amount of tea, maybe 12 to 15 cups a day if I had time. I’d probably eat biscuits, although I’m trying to stay away from the biscuits at the moment. My biggest vice is probably chocolate biscuit cake. If there’s chocolate biscuit cake at a wedding, I have to sample it. I can’t avoid it, it’s impossible.

SLOTH: What is your perfect downtime? I love to go to the cinema when I get the chance. I love watching movies. I’d watch literally anything and everything. We used to have a video shop at home growing up, so we watched everything. I’ve always liked a good comedy or a good thriller.

WRATH: What makes you stamp your foot? Probably bad drivers. People who don’t know how roundabouts work and people who don’t know how to use indicators. Being stuck in traffic annoys me as well.

ENVY: What do you not have but would really like? I’m pretty happy with what we have. Probably if we had a bigger house down the line with a garden that the girls could play in. But you make do with what you have. I’m happy out for now, that’s probably the only thing I would want.

PRIDE: What are you most proud of and why? I’m proud of my family. I have three wonderful girls. They’re happy and healthy. I’m so proud of them. I’m also proud of the band. We’ll be 25 years together in July. I’m proud of keeping that going for that length of time.
