Threats or attempts of violent crime increase by 25% in Ballybofey

Central Crime Statistics (CSO) details that attempts or threats of murder, assaults, harassments or related offences in Ballybofey increased by 25% from 2024 to 2025.

The rise of this category of crime in Ballubofey occurred, despite there being a minimal increase in the incidence of attempts or threats of murder, assaults, harassments, or related offences across the Lifford-Stranorlar Municipal District. 

Other crime categories to see a significant increase in the Lifford-Stranorlar MD were drug and road offences. 

Garda Stations that were included in the statistics were Ballybofey, Carrigans, Castlefin, Convoy, Lifford, and Raphoe. 

Attempts or threats of murder, assaults, harassments, or related offences in Ballybofey increased from 68 offences in 2024 to 85 offences in 2025.

Drug offences more than doubled in the Lifford-Stranorlar MD, from 20 in 2024 to 43 in 2025, and road offences increased by 53% in the same time period across the municipal district.

At the other end of the scale, public order offences fell by 19% in the Lifford-Stranorlar MD. Damage to property or the environment offences reduced by 14.5%, and dangerous or negligent acts were 12.3% lower in 2025 compared to 2024.
