'Blown away' -Poor Farmers Association present €50,000 to local charities in Ardara

The annual auction marked its 20th anniversary in December with another resounding success, raising €48,300 on the night for local charities, with money continuing to be raised afterwards to put them in a place to present the cheques

'Blown away' -Poor Farmers Association present €50,000 to local charities in Ardara

The Poor Farmers Association (PFA) made €50,000 worth of donations following its charity auction at Teague’s Bar in Ardara

The annual auction marked its 20th anniversary in December with another resounding success, raising €48,300 on the night for local charities, with money continuing to be raised afterwards to put them in a place to present the cheques. 

A sum of €13,000 was donated to Downstrands Family Resource Centre, presented to David Classon; €11,000 was given to Ardara Cardiac First Responders’ Kevin Clifford; €13,000 was made for The Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust and Colin Bell was there to pick up the cheque and €13,000 was also gathered for the Irish Cancer Society’s research and the presentation was made to Edel Shovlin.

Over the past 20 years, the association has raised in excess of €625,000 for local charities.

“This money will go directly into the counselling service to ensure that we can continue to provide low-cost counselling to the community,” the  Downstrands Family Resource Centre said. “We are blown away by this incredible donation. A huge well done to everyone at the PFA and those who donated and bid on the night!”
