Glenea United will host a New Year's Day fundraising match in honour of former captain John O'Brien.
In January, 2021, John passed away at the Donegal Hospice following an illness.
John was an integral part of Glenea United side that won three Donegal League Premier Division titles from 2002-04 and was captain for one of those campaigns.
He spent 25 years turning out for Glenea, who said at the time of his death that John was 'one of our greatest players'.
On New Year's Day, players from the three-in-a-row side will take on a team made up of other Glenea United players.
A big crowd is expected to converge on Pairc Joe for the game, which kicks off at 2pm.
Donations will be accepted on the day and an online campaign has already raised over €2,500. You can donate here: https://www.idonate.ie/fundraiser/OBrien1
The memorial match will raise funds for the Donegal Hospice and the game is part of a fundraising campaign in aid of the Donegal Hospice that is being undertaken by John's family.
After the game, there will be a function with food and music in Teach Dixon at 5pm.
