Bundoran Garda Station
Concern has been expressed over a lack of Gardai in Bundoran and the state of the Garda station in the seaside town.
Bundoran-based Sinn Fein Councillor Michael McMahon raised the issue at Friday's meeting of the Joint Policing Committee in Lifford.
“It is a cause for serious concern,” Councillor McMahon said.
“There has been over 600 new people move into this area recently and at any given time there are only four Gardai for the Bundoran area. That wouldn't police any town.”
Councillor McMahon said that the population of the town can swell anywhere between 2,000 and 8,000 with events like Sea Sessions hosted during summer festivals.
He also voiced displeasure over the state of the Garda station.
Councillor McMahon said: “There has been nothing done with it for a number of years now. It is a small station and it is not fit for purpose. Something has to be done if they are to give proper service.”
Superintendent Sean Grant said he would raise the matter with the Superintendent in Ballyshannon and would also relay it with the new leadership team in the Donegal Division.
