Latest Met Éireann weather forecast predicts temperatures in the 20s

Leave the wellies at home, at least on day one of the 2024 National Ploughing Championships in Laois.

Last year the event was hit with heavy rains on the first day, leaving conditions very muddy but this year the temperatures are set to soar back into the 20s.

This weekend will be cooler and damper, but Met Éireann's forecast for Monday and Tuesday next week is for the return of warm, dry weather in the Midlands.

"Monday: Mostly cloudy with outbreaks of rain at times but becoming more persistent and possibly heavy in the north. Fresh and gusty southwesterly breezes and becoming warmer too with highs of 18 to 21 degrees.

"Tuesday: Current indications are for any rain to gradually clear but it will remain cloudy in parts too. Staying warm with highs again of around 18 to 21 degrees with light winds".

Wednesday in Laois, day two of the ploughing is expected to be dry, with temperatures up to 20 degrees  and the sun breaking through at times.  The final day will also be dry, with temperatures of up to 20 degrees.

The National Ploughing Championships take place in Ratheniska, County Laois from Tuesday to Thursday, September 17 to 19.
