6 summer white wines to serve with seafood

As we sail into long, lazy, hazy days of summer and switch out heavier go-tos for something fresh and sprightly, ice buckets call for a bottle which signals good-time vibes.

Especially with seafood stalls brimming with catch of the day, and sun-kissed days spurring us on to entertain al fresco.

Not to mention days at the seaside… think fish and chips on the beach, or grilled langoustine with garlic mayonnaise for a taste of the South of France – washed down with a refreshing white.

Ready to quench your thirst? These are the wines to dive into…

1. Irresistible Soave Classico 2024, Italy, £8.25, Co-op, in-store

Summer in a glass, you can’t beat a bottle of soave to bring a smile to the face with its old-school charm. Hailing from the Veneto region in northern Italy, this crisp white offers characteristic citrusy fruit, hint of almond, with delicate floral aromas and touch of pear coming into play. Downright delicious with seafood risotto.

2. Villemarin Ormarine Picpoul de Pinet 2024, Languedoc, France, £11, Majestic

Right on point with a platter of fruits de mer, the fresh, zesty flavours of a gorgeous glass of picpoul bring a lot to the table. With a sun-ripened edge to the lemony, grapefruit flavours and delicious saline tang, there’s a perfect balance of fresh acidity and minerality with this top drop… and label worth seeking out.

3. Vasse Felix Classic Semillon Sauvignon Blanc 2024, Margaret River, Australia, £13, Tesco

Semillon dominant, lending a seductive texture, touch of tanginess and essentially bolstering the herbaceous notes and grassy flavours of a savvy blanc… this aromatic white is fabulously fresh with a tingly, vibrant finish. A perfect pairing with grilled fish, sushi or Thai coconut shrimp.

4. Pazos de Lusco Albariño 2024, Rias Baixas, Spain, £13.25 (was £17.50), Ocado

Bright, breezy and bang up-to-date, you can’t beat a trendy albariño for its sea-loving status. With a limey zestiness, rounded, ripe stone-fruit flavours and smooth, textured palate, this distinctive wine stands out for its generous mouthfeel and perfectly balanced acidity. One for seared scallops with butter garlic sauce, or poached turbot…Mmm.

5. Journey’s End Weather Station Sauvignon Blanc 2024, South Africa, £13.50, Ocado

Super fresh and instantly inviting, it’s easy to imagine the stunning South African coastline with every sip of this savvy blanc. Fragrant with an open bouquet of kiwi fruit, gooseberry and squeeze of lime, similar flavours unfold with an enticing herbal note and tangy, fresh finish. We’re thinking spicy crab cakes or ceviche.

6. Two Beacons Bacchus 2023, England, £16, Two Beacons Vineyard

Worth pushing the boat out for, English still whites are full of verve… and this Wine GB Silver Medal Winner 2025 more than delivers with its delightful aromas of elderflower, limey herbal notes, freshly cut grass and citrusy acidity. If you love a sauvignon blanc, the bacchus grape thrives in England’s vineyards, and the wine is a natural bedfellow with oysters, or steamed clams with garlic and spaghetti… Cheers!
