West Brom boss Ryan Mason admits it is “tough to accept” their 1-1 draw with Leicester after they conceded deep into stoppage time at the Hawthorns.
Samuel Iling-Junior’s magnificent solo effort fired West Brom into a 10th-minute lead with his first goal for the club and it looked like it was going to be enough to earn all three points following back-to-back defeats.
Josh Maja came off the bench and missed two chances to seal the victory – he blasted over the bar in the 90th minute with a glorious opportunity.
And Leicester punished them when Bobby De Cordova-Reid’s effort – which was going wide – slammed off the knee of Nat Phillips and into the back of the net to send both teams home with a share of the spoils.
Mason says he wants everyone in the dressing room to feel the pain of surrendering all three points in the last minute.
He said: “I don’t want to sum it up, to be honest, because it’s still so fresh and so much emotion.
“It’s tough to accept. When you play a game of football like that and deserve so much more but don’t come away with what you deserve it’s painful and it hurts.
“I want everyone inside the club to be hurting too because we want to win – 1-0 is a dangerous scoreline and when you create good opportunities and don’t put the game to bed, you run the risk of allowing the opposition in.
“To concede late on and in the nature we did is bitterly disappointing.”
Mason says he has not yet spoken to the players following the result.
“I’ve not spoken to the players. It’s important we feel the pain of something like this because it’s so emotional.
“I’ve got the opportunity to do that (speak to the players) in the morning. I don’t want to say something I don’t mean because I loved the performance.
“I don’t just love performances, I want to win and need to get that message over to the players.”
Leicester boss Marti Cifuentes hailed the character of his side after they came from behind again to achieve a result.
He said: “Its always great to get a late goal. To be able to celebrate at the end was important emotionally. Not the result we wanted but it was disappointing to concede the early goal.
“Football and life sometimes is about challenges and getting through difficult periods. It’s not easy to go through these emotions and have the energy and capacity to get something from those games.
“I really value the personality of the players to get through the emotions of the game and it means we get an important point.”
