Song seeking another big payday at Redcar

Song seeking another big payday at Redcar

Song Of The Clyde will shoot for another big sales prize in Saturday’s William Hill Two Year Old Trophy at Redcar.

Bought for £85,000 by Middleham Park Racing, the son of Sergei Prokofiev has recouped that fee and more by winning well over £400,000.

He scooped £338,821 by winning the Harry’s Half Million By Goffs at York and a further £86,533 when second in a similar race at Doncaster last time and could grab another £118,374 if he wins at Redcar.

His most recent effort on Town Moor was over six and a half furlongs when he was reeled in late by Calendar Girl and Cox is happy to be dropping back slightly in trip.

He said: “We’ve been thrilled with his progress this year. He’s been a really successful performer and I’m quite happy going back to six furlongs after just fading in the closing stages over six and a half.

“He ran a blinder and we were giving a lot of weight away, so it was a very commendable performance to be second there.

“I’m very happy, hopefully he’ll run with a big chance on Saturday.

“It’s been a real joy to follow a similar path as we did with Dragon Leader (winner in 2023). He won this and hopefully we can back that up.”

Cox also runs Inca Heights, with Kevin Ryan’s Isle Of Fernandez and Hugo Palmer’s Ardisia among the fancied runners.

Tim Easterby runs two in Storm Esme, a Palace Pier filly who won at Newcastle on debut, and Argentine Tango, who has danced every dance this season in races such as the Duchess of Cambridge Stakes, the Molecomb and the Lowther.

Craig Lidster’s Arduis Invicta and Kevin Philippart de Foy’s Hollywood Treasure are others high up in the betting.
