Ryan Rainey seeing progressive improvement at Finn Harps

Harps were solid at the back and aspects of their attacking play looked fluid but they are struggling to put the ball in the back of the net right now

Ryan Rainey says Finn Harps produced their best half of football to date this season against Wexford but believes they just aren’t getting that rub of the green in the last third.

Dave Rogers’ young side battled admirably once again on Friday night as they added their second point to the League of Ireland First Division board following a 0-0 draw in Ballybofey.

But, as Rainey admits, they really need to start putting the ball in the back of the net if that graft is to be fully appreciated.

Harps' stand in captain in the absence of Keith Cowan, said: “The only thing missing there was a goal, I think. In the second-half we had them pinned in. We thought we defended well as a group. We created a few chances but we just aren’t taking them.

“We just have to look at that going forward. It’s something we have to work on”.

Wexford and Harps both created openings and looked solid and well drilled in defence and in their build up play. But none of that was transferred into goals at either end of the field.

“Wexford are a good side, Rainey added. “They’d a big win last week. They are very well organised and they worked extremely hard. They had a chance or two in that first half as well.

“I see improvements there. As a group we are working so hard. We just need that little bit of luck right now in front of goal”.
