Update called for on Clonmany water upgrade work after latest outage

Nature based solutions needed to combat Clonmany flooding

A meeting in last month heard locals express frustrations about repeated outages in the Urris and Clonmany areas in recent months

Donegal TD  Pádraig Mac Lochlainn has called on Uisce Éireann to commence the promised upgrade works in Clonmany following another water outage in the area.

Uisce Éireann announced in June that a programme of works would begin this month which it says will help put a stop to ongoing bursts, outages and leakage in the area.

A meeting in Clonmany community centre last month heard locals express frustrations about repeated outages in the Urris and Clonmany areas in recent months.

The work, which was due to begin mid-July,  involves the replacing of around 800m of old pipes in the Straid and Gaddyduff  areas which are susceptible to regular bursts and high levels of leakage.

Mr Mac Lochlainn said he has contacted the utility seeking an update on the plans for Straid and Gaddyduff following the latest outage in the area.

“People across the Clonmany parish have suffered from a very poor water network for far too long and a recent public meeting highlighted the sheer frustration of the local community,” the Sinn Féin TD said.

“Uisce Éireann believes that these upgrade works will make a big difference. Those works need to get underway.”
