Jim McGuinness insists that Donegal midfielder Jason McGee will be ready to face Galway in the All-Ireland semi-final.

The Cloughaneely man was named in the panel for Sunday's quarter-final win over Louth at Croke Park.

McGee took no part in the warm-up before the 1-23 to 0-18 win with Donegal unwilling to risk a player who has been carrying a groin injury of late.

“He is fine,” Donegal manager McGuinness offered after Donegal booked a place in the last four at Louth's expense.

“He will be back training at the beginning of the week. Jason has had a lot of injuries and managed himself through the Ulster Championship.

“We had to make a decision about three or four weeks ago about an injury that he had been carrying.

“We decided to take him out and to build him up. He will be absolutely in the mix for the semi-final.”

Five points from Peadar Mogan, who collected the man of the match gong, and a goal by Eoghan Ban Gallagher, to mark his 100th Donegal appearance, sent Donegal on their way to a first semi-final since 2014.

McGuinness said: “It was a hugely important thing for the group to get over the line because Jason is doing everything he can to be ready. He is out the other side of the medical part now and is pushing forward with his training.”
