Deputy Ward says treatment of Fastway Couriers workers is a ‘disgrace’

Deputy Charles Ward said the treatment of Fastway Couriers workers is a 'disgrace'

Deputy Charles Ward has said that the treatment of Fastway Couriers drivers in the past week has been a “disgrace”.

The Donegal Deputy said that couriers throughout the county are now left suddenly without income coming into the Christmas season.

“I was shocked to hear of the way the workers were treated since the announcement that Fastway Couriers had entered receivership last week,” said Deputy Ward. “Workers have been left in limbo, with very little communication. I have been told that Donegal drivers had only been made aware that their employment was ending when the news broke last Tuesday.”

The 100% Redress Party TD said that it is outrageous that workers have been treated in this way, and that the way the situation has been handled is completely unacceptable.

Deputy Ward said: “It is particularly shocking that the workers won't be paid for work that was done in the last couple of weeks, that they were told they could not accept another job for 30 days, and that they might have to wait until February before they receive redundancy payments.”

He added that he fully supports the Fastway Courier drivers in their fight for fair treatment and remuneration.

“I stand in solidarity with the workers and the protesters, and I will be calling on the government to intervene as a matter of urgency,” said Deputy Ward.
