A garden centre in North Kildare has been refused planning permission for a storage warehouse/café extension and alterations.

Orchard Garden Centre (Celbridge), Ballyoulster was refused planning permission on March 25 2026 (application no. 2614).

The application was submitted to Kildare County Council on February 9 2026.

The proposed scheme consists of the following:

  • Proposed alterations to existing garden centre retail spaces including retention of first floor retail areas 574m2, new access and entrance.

  • Proposed new two-storey extension to provide a storage warehouse to the west of the site 903m2.

  • Extension to existing external canopy to the east for covered external retail 916m2.

  • Demolition of existing storage building and bungalow on site.

  • Extension and alterations to existing cafe including single storey extensions external food to go/BBQ area and staff area.

  • Converting and refurbishing existing listed bothy/hothouse for use as retail space. Protected structure ref: KD011-028.

Also included is proposed new signage and advertising totems to entrance, associated engineering works and site works.

The architect for the proposed development is Project Design Architects.
