Kildare County Council (KCC) has given updates on its plans for both Newbridge Library and the Riverbank Arts Centre.

The updates were given to councillors who attended the latest Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District (MD) meeting, which took place on Wednesday, December 17 last.

A representative from KCC's Strategic Projects and Public Realm section delivered the most recent updates, which followed previous updates that were issued by KCC back at the MD's September meeting.

Speaking about the Newbridge Library project first, the rep said that it has reached the Stage 1 Tender Process.

They also said that KCC has shortlisted three construction teams for the project, and added that KCC hopes to have a response back by the end of the year.

As for the Riverbank Arts Centre project, the rep said that the public consultation for the Part 8 process will proceed in Quarter 1 of 2026. This process refers to anytime when a project is being progressed by the Local Authority, planning permission is applied for under Part 8 of the Planning and Development Regulations 2001 (as amended).

However, the rep added that further "significant" funding will be required to progress the project.

They also said that there has been no significant design changes to the project since the last update.

In addition, the rep told those in attendance that the Riverbank Arts Centre will remain open during the construction works, but stressed that the scale of some events may be restricted because of these works.
