One of the existing street signs in Kilkenny due to be replaced
New street signs are set to be rolled out across Kilkenny City.
The update came during today's meeting of Kilkenny City Municipal District Council.
Tim Butler, Director of Services at Kilkenny County Council, confirmed that the new street signs will be similar in appearance to the original black cast iron signs but will be made from aluminum.
Street names are to be displayed in both English and Irish, with the Irish typeface being slightly larger.
Before a full-scale rollout, one sign has been ordered and will be put on display at Parliament Street for inspection, but a set date for this is yet to be confirmed.
Cllr Andrew McGuinness welcomed the development, stating that the current signs 'look atrocious'.
"They're stickers on steel, falling off all over the place," he said.
Cllr Maria Dollard described the news as 'fantastic' and welcomed the fact that 'the new signs look like the old ones'.
