American comedian Reginald D Hunter is coming to the Watergate Theatre in Kilkenny on October 21, as part of his tour, The Man who could see through Sh*t.

Reginald D Hunter grew up in Albany, Georgia but moved to London when he was 27 years old.

Since then, he has gone on to become one of the comedy industry’s best-known performers for his distinctive take on the most diverse range of subjects.

He has made appearances on shows such as Live at the Apollo, HIGNFY, and 8 out of 10 Cats Does Countdown.

His show, The Man who could see through Sh*t, tackles the challenge of separating what is true and what is real in these ‘supercharged socio-political’ times.

He began the Irish stretch of his tour with a show in Dun Laoghaire on October 1.

Reginald will be touring Ireland during the month of October, with 21 scheduled shows, where in which he will be testing his limits.

“Ireland is a tough audience in terms of being able to handle themselves and not being able to be emotionally torn up,” he said.

Each show is set to last an hour.

“If I don’t hate the audience or hate my voice or hate my face, time flies,” he said.

Reginald said that he is looking for something on stage over here and he won’t know it until he finds it.

“You want the first night to be great and then each night to get better,” he said.

He will be joining other well known comedians such as Rhys Darby, John Bishop, Deirdre O’ Kane and more at the Galway Comedy Festival on October 26.

He is looking forward to meeting up with some of the other comedians, saying that events like this are the 'closest thing comedians have to jamming’.

“That’s a big circle on the calendar,” he said, joking that it will be his first ‘progress report’.

Reginald said that he is now at an age where he needs approval less and that he’s less worried about being everybody’s friend, which has allowed him to reach another level of honesty.

“I think honesty can be considerate, even when honesty has to be unkind, it’s in the service of being considerate,” he said.

“Some old people use honesty as a right to be unkind, I don’t ever believe in that,” he added.

Reginald revealed that he is a big fan of Irish stew and has been looking for it since he has been in Ireland.

“A good bowl of Irish stew reassures your convictions that god is still in his heaven,” he commented.

Reginald said that he had one of his best shows ever in Waterford and that some of his favourite places to tour in Ireland are Vicar Street (Dublin), Roisin Dubh (Galway) and Spirit Store (Dundalk).

Tickets for Reginald’s show in the Watergate Theatre on October 21 are available on the Watergate Theatre website.
