The works are due to be completed next week
Frustrations have been expressed over the last number of months as the roadworks on the Ossory Bridge were significantly delayed.
The roadworks began last May on the N10 Ring Road between the Bennettsbridge and Dublin road roundabout, which were to be completed by October.
The €250,000 structural improvement works were to improve the pedestrian and cycling facilities along the bridge, however the works were halted due significant structural issues identified during the works.
Cllr David FitzGerald understands that the works should be completed next week.
Cllr FitzGerald said:
"Not before its time, I’ve finally got confirmation the Ossory Bridge will be fully reopened with bollards and cones removed by next week. Kilkenny County Council and National Transport of Ireland have put significant pressure on to ensure the road is reopened this side of Christmas. I acknowledge the frustration across the city and county, people have been seriously inconvenienced the volumes of traffic along the route and traffic displaced right across the city with higher volumes of traffic on Dean Street and along St Francis Bridge. The works will have a vast improvement in terms of safety with the much enhanced and widened cycling and pedestrians. After the busy festive period we should see the benefit of these roadworks.’’
