Michael Doyle received the Feargal Quinn Award in Athlone recently
Kilkenny student Michael Doyle has received the Feargal Quinn Award for achieving one of the highest LCA results in the country.
The local man has attended the School of the Holy Spirit on the Callan Road for the past number of years and received the accolade at the LCA National Conference held in Athlone recently.
The LCANA 'Feargal Quinn Awards' are presented each year to students who achieve top credits in the Leaving Certificate Applied Examination of that year and are named after Senator, Feargal Quinn, who was the first Chairman of the steering committee for the then new Leaving Certificate Applied.
Michael graduated from the Kilkenny school in June and received 100% in all subject areas, specialisms and tasks in his LCA results in August.
Away from the books, his talents are well known in local music circles and he is an active member of Comhairle na nÓg and the national executive at Dail na nÓg.
The award winner will now continue his education in Ormonde College of Further Education where he will study media.
In a post released on social-media, the School of the Holy Spirit paid tribute to their past pupil, stating: "We are so proud of him and wish him well for his future studies! We hope his family enjoy this special day.
"Michael has proven the importance of a varied and rich secondary school curriculum being provided in special schools," they said.
