The 18th and 19th centuries marked a significant period in Kilkenny's brewing history as the arrival of the Sullivan brewing family and the Smithwick brewing dynasty in the 1700s ignited an era of great brewing prosperity.
Founded in 1710, many Kilkenny families dating back generations gave life-long service to the local brewery up until its closure as a commercial enterprise in 2013.
