Kilkenny Castle
The Marquis of Ormonde handed over the keys of Kilkenny Castle to Mr James Gibbons, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Finance and Chairman of the Kilkenny Castle Restoration and Development Committee on this day (August 12) 57 years ago.

The ceremony took place in the grounds of Kilkenny Castle and coincided with the first international Butler rally.
Amongst those in attendance at the ceremony were Minister for Finance Charles J Haughey and Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger. - WATCH: RTÉ News report broadcast on 12 August 1967
