Food from the frontlines will be available to sample

All are invited to a Trench Supper 1914-1918 which will tell the story of the food available on the front during the Great War and the logistics of getting it there.

The event will be hosted by local military historian Larry Scallan where people will be able to learn about the ways that soldiers made the best of their situation in the trenches by smelling and tasting the food of the era.
The demonstration is presented by the Kilkenny Great War Memorial Committee and will take place at the Kilkenny Great War Memorial at the Peace Park on the banks of the River Nore at 7pm on Friday, October 25.
During the war, the possibility of extended periods of occupying frontline trenches was only manageable with the development of canned and preserved food products. This demonstration will also explain some of the major logistical issues faced in keeping an ever increasing army in the field.
