Portlaoise train station
A suspended sentence was given to a man who was drunk and abusive at Portlaoise Train Station.
Anthony Kelly, 26, with an address at 46 Block D, The Steeples, Chapelizod, Dublin 20 was arrested at Portlaoise Train Station on April 1.
Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby said the accused was with a woman and the defendant was “shouting and roaring at staff” working for Iarnrod Eireann. He said the accused has 16 previous convictions.
Defence Counsel Suzanne Dooner said her client who had been travelling on the train from Dublin on the day was very apologetic.
She said he suffered from alcohol addiction issues and was now engaging in treatment. She explained that he is on disability benefit and had suffered injuries in an assault in Dublin.
She said he was a carer for his mother and is pleading guilty at the earliest opportunity.
Judge Andrew Cody fined the man €200 and gave him a three month sentence which he suspended for two years.
