A van driver was caught speeding twice in a matter of minutes on the motorway in Laois.

Luke John Ainscough, 26, with an address at Valley Bungalows, Lower Main Street, Clogheen, Tipperary was detected doing 150kph in 120 zone on the M7 Meelick, Portlaoise on November 15 last.

Garda Michael Kenneally then stopped the accused on the M7 at Ballydavis for driving at 149kph in a 120kph zone on the same morning.

“He stated he was late for work. He had just been prosecuted by another garda a few minutes previously,” said Garda Kenneally. He said the man’s tax was also out.

“He only slowed down by one kilometre. He was at least slowing down,” noted Judge Andrew Cody.

He fined the man €500 for no tax, €500 for each speeding offence and disqualified him from driving for six months. The defendant wasn’t in court for the case.
