Event features poetry, rap, spoken word & dance
Young local rappers, poets, and dancers come into the limelight this weekend in Portlaoise.
Veevee, Cereal, Noma, Yadstar,Esco Millionz, YB Kenzel, Kevs themadone, Ola Gerald, Loskay take the stage of the Dunamaise Arts Centre for the first show of rap, poetry, spoken word and dance in the county.
Laois and Offaly Local Creative Youth Partnership (LO LCYP) is funding the Creative Youth event. It is organised by the Laois Africa Support Group with ongoing support from the Dunamaise Arts Centre as part of the Creative Youth project that nurtures talented young Laois people aged 14 to 24.
Bolaji Adeyanju is one of the organisers.
“This event offers young people an opportunity to share their talent through rapping and spoken word,” he said.
He added that the aim is to allow young people have a voice on issues that affect them through creative engagement feeding into the work of the LO LCYP. He said it aims to ensure that young people are at the heart of developing and implementing creativity.
The event is supported by the Laois Offaly Education and Training Board (LOETB). It takes place at Dunamaise Arts Centre on Friday, August 18 from 6pm - 8pm.
