A teenager admitted stealing four bottles of Hennessy from a shop in Laois.
Roman Lavo, 19, of 47 Seandoire, Durrow admitted stealing the alcohol from Supervalu, Lyster Square in Portlaoise on January 26 last.
Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby said the defendant told gardai he had stolen the drink to give to a homeless man for €10. The alcohol was valued at €158.
Solicitor Josephine Fitzpatrick questioned her client’s mental maturity. She said he had been in Ireland for nine years and had attended St Francis Special School in Portlaoise.
“He didn’t have any money for the travel home on the bus,” she said.
Ms Fitzpatrick said her client was in receipt of €110 a week and if given time could pay compensation.
Judge Andrew Cody agreed to adjourn the matter back to Portlaoise District Court sitting on October 26 for finalisation. He granted legal aid.
