In our September / October edition of Laois Life magazine, Laois entrepreneur and businessman Michael Fitzpatrick revealed his Seven Deadly Sins.
LUST: Who or what do you find yourself lusting after today and why?
Right now, I’m really craving a shopping and spa day with my friends. After a busy summer filled with work and social events, a little getaway sounds amazing. Getting away from it all and putting our phones down would be such a nice break.

GREED: What should you be cutting down on (non-food or drink) and why?
I definitely need to cut back on screen time. It’s way too easy to get lost in creating content, following trends, and scrolling endlessly. While my phone is super important for my work and keeping in touch with friends, I think I need to find a better balance.
GLUTTONY: What one thing could you happily eat or drink until you burst, and why?
American-style cheesecake is my ultimate weakness! I remember going to dinner with friends, and it turned out to be a blind date. The highlight was definitely the cheesecake my date made. Since then, I’ve become a huge fan of that creamy dessert, way more than the European kind. They say food is the way to the heart, but on this occasion the cheesecake was more pleasing than the baker!

SLOTH: What should you be putting your back into now and why?
I always try to give my all to everything I do; it’s how I was raised. Fashion has always been something I love, and I feel like now is the time to really focus on it. I enjoy helping others express themselves through their style. Confidence is the best thing you can wear, and it’s so rewarding to see someone glow when they feel great in their clothes.
WRATH: Who or what makes you angry and why?
Seeing someone pass on the inside lane of the motorway drives me crazy! I’m a stickler for the rules of the road, and it frustrates me that accidents happen because some people don’t respect each other on the road.
ENVY: Who are you jealous of and why?
I sometimes feel a bit envious of straight people. Many don’t realize how tough it can be to be gay in a world that can be pretty fragile. Choices can feel limited, and there’s often a fear of backlash for being different, whether it’s in public or online. Safety is a real concern, and not every place feels welcoming however I must admit over time and with people standing up Ireland is becoming a more accepting and inclusive place to live.

PRIDE: What’s your proudest achievement and why?
There are so many things I’m proud of in my life. I’m grateful for the wonderful people around me—my family, my business, and the online community that looks to me for inspiration. One of my proudest moments was launching my business, Fitz Of Inch, right as Covid hit. It was a tough time when I had to adapt quickly and work hard to keep my business going. Looking back, I’m proud of every challenge I faced, and I’m motivated to keep moving forward.
