These positions may be suitable for many people as a variety of skillsets are needed and some require no specific qualifications.
Laois County Council Fire Service are currently seeking applications for retained fire fighters across all stations in Laois. The main requirements for recruiting firefighters is that applicants must live and work within a reasonable distance from the fire station and have a reasonably good level of fitness. Applicants for these roles will be interviewed as positions arise.
The council are also seeking a Staff Officer (Grade V) to join their team. This is a supervisory position and is assigned functional responsibility for the administration and management of a work area, section or team. A degree is not required for this role, although it may be an advantage. The salary scale for this full-time and permanent position ranges from €51,722 to €61,865 a year.

There is a vacancy for a Clerk of Works within the Facilities Department of Laois County Council. This role is responsible for the supervision and management of construction operations and maintenance operations by the council as well as the maintenance and upkeep of council owned buildings. A degree or certificate in the areas of engineering, architecture, civil engineering or construction is necessary for this job. The yearly salary scale for this position ranges from €57,322 to €70,030.
The council are also seeking a Temporary Clerical Officer (Grade III). This role is part of a multidisciplinary team, assisting with
the implementation of work programmes to achieve goals, targets and standards set out in the Corporate Plan and Annual Service Delivery Plans. A degree is not required for this job, however two years of relevant experience is. The annual pay-scale is €30,811 to €47,945.
There is also a position listed for a Plumber who will be based in the Housing/Facilities departments of Laois County Council. Qualifications in plumbing are necessary for the job, along with relevant work experience. The salary scale for this post ranges from €796.52 to €917.38 per week.
Laois County Council have a rolling competition for an Executive Planner. The Executive Planner is responsible for managing elements of the Planning Department and providing a multiplicity of services to Local Authorities, as well as working closely with local councillors. A degree is required for this role as well as at least five years work experience in planning. The annual salary scale ranges from €59,607 to €82,108.
There is another rolling competition for Assistant Planner. Again, a relevant degree is necessary alongside two years work experience in planning. The annual pay scale for this position is €45,802 to €71,185.
Laois County Council are also looking for an Assistant Engineer to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team within one of the council’s Directorates to deliver key services such as social housing, transportation infrastructure, environmental protection, and more. A Level 8 degree in engineering is required for this role as well as two years experience. The annual pay scale is between €46,802 and €72,609.
The council is also offering a great opportunity for graduates as they are seeking a Graduate Engineer to join their Housing Department as part of a fixed-term two-year contract. A relevant degree in engineering is a requirement for the job. Successful applicants will be paid €39,346 in the first year of their contract, and this will rise to €42,184 in the second.
