Gardaí in Laois are investigating an incident of criminal damage to a former popular pub.

Portlaoise gardaí have identified a suspect allegedly responsible for graffiti on Charlie Keegan's pub on Portlaoise's main street.

The 55 year old man is alleged to have spraypainted 'Free Gaza' to the side of the building. The incident occurred at 10:30am on Friday April 13. It was first reported to Gardaí on Sunday April 19.

Keegan's pub has sat derelict for almost a decade.

Since its closure, the business has fallen into disrepair, which led Laois County Council to issue a legal notice of dereliction to its owners in October 2023. It was eventually placed on the council's Derelict Sites Register in March 2024.

Some form of public house has operated for more than a century. The property was listed for sale in November of 2025.
